  • What is an Authorization Fee?
  • Authorization fees are the initial "ping" to the credit card company to see if that card is valid and if it can handle the amount requested. This is similar to a balance inquiry at an ATM. Pre-Authorizations are when you make a reservation on that card for an upcoming charge for something like a hotel room. Authorization requests use network resources and therefore have a per item cost.
